The Coaster Handcycle was designed by world-class athlete Peter Brookes. We like to think of the Coaster as a hybrid Handcycle that falls somewhere between a competition recumbent and a standard upright sitting posture trike.
Traditionally, recumbent cycles are used for racing, because the user lays in a semi-reclined position with their legs out in front of them. This position creates less wind resistance which makes the unit more efficient. If racing is your goal a recumbent is the way to go - the efficiencies provided by recumbnant cycle comes with a price though and that price is harder transfers and a limited turning radius. These cycles are long and usually require a special bicycle rack for transport.
The Coaster sits you in an upright seated position, but is much more efficient than similar handcycles.
What sets the Coaster apart from the standard upright posture unit is our solid two piece T Frame. It makes the cycle stiffer and lighter than competitors units and its unique two piece design allows you to easily disassemble the bike so it will fit into the back seat or trunk of most cars.
The Coaster is the lightest upright-posture Handcycle available, It is far and away the most efficient. Its 21 speed Shimano derailleurs shift smooth and effortlessly. It has handlebars in addition to the hand cranks so you can be more stable when coasting downhill.
